Jazzfest goes World Wide

Når Jazzfest.no arrangeres i perioden 11.-15. mai vil det være til glede for jazzelskere over hele verden. Hele ni konserter vil sendes direkte via Internett. Møt Jazzfest World Wide.

Lørdag 15. mai kl 13.45: This Is What Should Have Been Our Name

When Trondheim Jazzfestival (Jazzfest.no) begins May 11th in Trondheim, Norway, jazz lovers around the world will be able to enjoy the music online. Nine concerts from the 5-day-long event will be broadcast directly via the Internet. This virtual audience will also be able to follow concerts both via computer and cell phone. The festival is a showcase for Norwegian jazz musicians, many of whom were educated at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology’s (NTNU) Jazz Programme.

“As far as I know, we are the first festival that will send free jazz concerts to mobile phones and computers worldwide. It will be very exciting to see what the response will be both in Norway and internationally. We know that Trondheim jazz milieu has gained wide recognition throughout the world – so now we want to give everyone the chance to enjoy our concerts – whether they are in Tokyo, New Orleans, Inner Billefjord or Langesund,” says Ernst Wiggo Sandbakk, Trondheim Jazz Festival director and associate professor of music at NTNU.

The aim of the Jazz Fest Worldwide is twofold. The first is to showcase the jazz talents being educated at NTNU and who will perform at Jazzfest.no. The second is to try out new technologies and new distribution channels that will be important for the festival in the future.

To enable the concerts to be broadcast via the Internet, festival organizers worked with two local companies, Adactus and Boost Communications, both of which have ties to NTNU. The two companies have expertise in multimedia, streaming and broadcast. Among the most well-known of their clients is FC Barcelona, for whcih the companies provide web TV and mobile portal services.*
